Welcome to Mr. Allran's Wiki and Links Page!!

2017-18 School Year!!!!!...."Welcome Back" from Mr. Allran to all of our TC students! This will mark my 19th year as part of the TC Mustang faculty and the start of my 29th year teaching in NC. All previous 28 years have been at the junior high/middle school level. I am 1983 graduate of Cherryville High School (Gaston County, NC) and a 1988 graduate of Appalachian State University located in the mountains of western NC. We are extremely proud of our Health/PE program at Tucker Creek and offer a wide variety of activities and "fun-related" fitness. Our daily goal is to promote healthy lifestyles and positive decision making skills. So, systematic progress in academics, health, relationships, responsibility, accountability, and good character is "what we're all about". Our expectations are high, yet reasonable.

While "fun and games" is/are the normal description of PE programs, we take it a step further and focus on the following areas:

1) Self discipline and personal responsibility
2) Treating each other with respect and kindness and a "bully-free" classroom and school
3) Sportsmanship and fair play
4) A thorough cardiovascular program, including routine self-checks to monitor intensity and heart/pulse rate
5) Health and body awareness, including healthy food choices and the importance of a healthy lifestyle.
6) Personal accountability for ones own health, behavior, attitude, effort...3 of our popular mottos are: "Your health is your business!".. "You never fail until you quit trying!"...and, "Discipline yourself so others won't have to!"
7) Movement, movement, movement
8) Respect for diversity

These are just a few of our goals and expectations. As always, we want class to be fun and enjoyable, but with obesity and heart disease on the rise, our department will take a proactive role in keeping our students healthy.

PowerSchool will be used for monitoring academic status and progress. Typically, if a student's grade falls below a "90", I will inform the parent via written notice. If communication is in "note" form, it will in a duplicate format with the child's signature so he/she will know exactly what I am sending home to mom/dad. Also, this provides with "documentation" of the action taken and puts part of the responsibility on the child.

Any student or class...6, 7, or 8th grade PE and/or Health.. may be selected to demonstrate their work/progress as part of the state's new ASW (Analysis of Student Work) requirement.

Health Sessions will be held in the gym (during PE classes) AND in the classroom. We incorporate the "Health" component in our regular PE classes, especially heart health, importance of regular exercise, aerobic/anaerobic exercise, resistance/weight training, cross training. pulse and heat rate monitoring, to name just a few.

*8th Grade NEWS!!!!! It is now mandatory that all 8th grade students in NC be proficient in Hands Only CPR. I handle this instruction at Tucker Creek and take it very serious. Upon completion, this will go on the student's transcript for permanent documentation. The mini-course normally takes about 2-3 days (depending on class size) and includes instruction on the use of AEDs and causes of heart disease. There is no "certification" that accompanies the course, but a "pass/fail" mark is assigned. This instruction will take place throughout the year, in hopes of a 100% completion rate. There is a classroom session and a practical part, as well.
